Left camp about 8:00 and made steady progress out of the park for 20 km. Then turned towards Tom Price. Uphill steeper than yesterday, but I had a tailwind so I flew for about 2 hours.
Then I reached the big hill for the day. 8% gradient for 4 km. Didn't feel like 4 km, but definitely felt like 8%.
Had a break beside the road in some shade to eat the sandwiches I bought at Auski 2 days ago. Tasted like cardboard but they did the job.
Coming into TP another big 8%er although much shorter and then another hill just before you reached the town. I was buggered by the time I got here
Went to the visitor centre and was told the only accommodation was at the caravan park 4 km out of town, or the pub across the road. An easy decision given:
- I had to stock up anyway and Coles was next door to the pub
- I needed a beer
- I wanted to sleep in a real bed
- and there was no way I was riding another metre.
Had a good spaghetti marinara at the pub. Internet wasn't working so couldn't update the blog.
Had a chat to Joe who was frustrated that his new wheel hadn't arrived yet.
