The Old Convent is now budget accommodation. The Catholics bagged the good real estate here. The other denominations are not on the Main Street.
After coffee and breakfast I packed up and got on the road again. I realise now why yesterday was so tough. It must have been mostly uphill because the road to Geraldton descends 700 metres over 50 km. There were a stack of small hills but the overall trend was downhill which made for more enjoyable riding. The wind had moderated too.
Some nice scenery around the Chapman Valley.
Coming into Geraldton I was able to get off the highway and take an alternate road with less traffic through some beachside suburbs. The Indian Ocean is a beautiful turquoise colour here (at least on this sunny day).
On the way to the caravan park I passed some nice historic buildings and then went through the port area. The C’Park is on a peninsula just past the port. I have a large grassed area to myself, I even have my own table and chair set, such luxury after bush camping!
After a shower I hit the laundry. Question - What do you wear when everything needs washing? Fortunately the weather is warm and sunny out of the wind.
Once I had dealt with the laundry it was back to town to the supermarket and to have a look around. Lots of older buildings in amongst the newer. Geraldton has a nice waterfront area although the cool southerly wind was probably keeping people away from the beach.
I didn't notice the church was leaning when I took this picture!
When I got back to the C’Park my nice quiet area had other campers including 2 German girls who were parked very near my tent. I offered to move my tent further away but they said it wasn’t necessary. When I said my snoring might bother them they laughed. I moved my tent just in case!
Later the remaining sites around filled up so it was quite crowded. Hoping for nice quiet bush camp tomorrow.
