Day 18 Cane River Rest Stop to Nanutarra Roadhouse 44km

After a beautiful night under the stars I was awake at 5.00 am listening to the bush come alive. Packed up slowly and was under way at 6.30 am. Slow progress as my legs were heavy after yesterday. I stopped a couple of times to find my camera and to look for my iPod. Also stopped to take pictures of the rocky hills in the morning light and of wildflowers.

The wildflowers are just coming into bud in this area and I expect there will be a riot of colour in the next few days.

Finally reached Nanutarra after 44 km at 10.00 am. Decided to stop here and have a rest day. I rang Tony . H was sounding much more positive and we are aiming to meet in Coral Bay.

Nanutarra has a memorial to Lionel Logue the speech therapist who was made famous in the film “The Kings Speech” where he was played by Geoffrey Rush.

Bought some wraps from the Roadhouse for breakfast and lunch and spent the rest of the day reading in the shade. Did my washing which was overdue.

Just before dinner I was invited for a drink and nibbles with Maxine and Russell who are from Heathmont in Melbourne. They have done quite a bit cycle touring in the USA and Europe. We had a lovely chat. Yet another free beer!

Afterwards I cooked dinner Mexican Tuna and beans with brown rice and was just contemplating a need for chocolate when Al who I met at Miaree Pool came over and invited me for a cup of tea. I had a lovely time chatting with Dianne and Al who I am sure to see again over the next week

  1. Hi Tony & Joe,
I am at Nanutarra today and have notice the memorial for Lionel Louge who was born in 1953, 2 years after King George died. The Lionel George Louge who helped the King with his speech died in the UK in April 1953.
